This hefty book offers the results of S. Soloviov’s ten-year-long investigation of a nearly virgin territory of chess theory.

Practical White Repertoire, Volume 2
This is the second volume of Alexei Kornev’s practical White repertoire with 1.d4 and 2.c4, and it is devoted to the defences in which Black fianchettoes the dark-squared bishop — the most ambitious, attacking replies to the Queen’s-Pawn game.
Kornev gives clear, complete recommendations against the whole fianchetto family: the Grünfeld (with the main 4.cxd5 and 5.e4 approach), the King’s Indian in all its branches, and the Modern, Pirc, and Philidor/Lion structures that arise when Black combines ...g6 or ...d6 with an early kingside fianchetto. Each is met with a coherent, unified plan rather than a patchwork of unrelated lines.
As the title promises, the emphasis is practical: the repertoire is chosen to be sound and genuinely playable for a club player, with the key plans and move-orders laid out clearly so you know not just the moves but the ideas behind them.
This is the middle book of a three-volume series: together with Volume 1 (the 1...d5 defences) and Volume 3 (the Nimzo-Indian and others), it forms a complete, classical 1.d4 and 2.c4 repertoire. Best suited to club players and above who want a principled, low-fuss way to meet the King’s Indian and Grünfeld.
The Benoni Defense can be divided into two main structures…
A complete black repertoire with 1.e4 e5 against everything except the Ruy Lopez by Igor Lysyj and Roman Ovetchkin
Igor Lysyi: “I worked hard at mastering 1…е7-е5 for Black….
In this book the reader will find an opening repertoire for Black against 1. e4, based on the Petroff Defence and designed to be used up to the highest level.
A completely updated edition which presents a Black repertoire based on the French.
Five years after the first edition, the book was completely rewritten and redesigned. While remaining true to the original structure, this new edition underwent major changes
Modern Reti
The Réti is the connoisseur’s way to open: 1.Nf3 followed by 2.c4, sidestepping reams of 1.d4 and 1.e4 theory while keeping all the flexibility of a flank opening. This book turns it into a complete White repertoire against Black’s most principled reply, 1...d5.
The treatment is organised by Black’s set-up after 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4. White is given clear, modern answers to the Queen’s-Gambit-Accepted-style 2...dxc4, the space-grabbing 2...d4 "reversed Benoni", and — most importantly — the solid ...c6 and ...e6 systems, where the book supplies detailed anti-Slav, anti-Chebanenko, anti-Meran and anti-Queen’s-Gambit plans, often with a quiet e3/b3 structure.
In the Chess Stars house style, each line comes in three layers — a "Main Ideas" overview, a detailed "Step by Step" theoretical section, and complete annotated games — so you can engage with the material at whatever depth you need.
A practical, low-theory repertoire for club players and above who want to steer the game into strategically rich middlegames on their own terms, rather than memorising the latest main-line theory.
