The set-up is based on sound principles and is easy to learn and understand. The Slow Italian may look innocent, but is actually full of venom. Ideal for the average club player but is also regularly adopted by many strong Grandmasters including the very best, such as world champion Magnus Carlsen and Anish Giri.
The follow up of the successfull tactics books of Csaba Balogh. The book consists 551 practical puzzles from the January of 2013 to the July of 2015.
The book provides valuable insight into the qualities that made Karpov such a great endgame player, maybe the greatest of all time.
This book began as a teaching curriculum developed for the DYSS — the elite Russian state sports school that has trained some of the world's strongest grandmasters. Konstantin Sakaev and Konstantin Landa, both grandmasters with extensive coaching experience, adapted that material into a course that any serious player can follow independently.
Despite the title, this is not a positional chess textbook in the traditional sense. It covers a much wider range than piece coordination and pawn structures: the authors address opening principles and quick development, calculation and decision-making in the middlegame, material imbalances and when to disturb them, as well as practical topics including physical conditioning, psychological preparation, and how to structure study sessions without becoming over-reliant on computer analysis.
The DYSS framework gives the book an unusual coherence — these are not isolated tips but interconnected elements of a complete training approach tested with real students. The level is advanced; this is material designed for players aiming at master strength and above.
A companion second volume extends the same approach to more complex material.
Chess Evolution is proud to announce its FIDE-approved endgame manual. The first volume, written by GMs Mikhalchishin and Balogh covers Queen and Pawn endgames.
The Fianchetto Solution
When experienced teacher Emmanuel Neiman found that some of his pupils were avoiding tournaments for fear of being crushed in the opening, he set out to build the most practical repertoire he could: complete, solid, easy to learn, slow to date — and usable with both colours. Teaming up with grandmaster Samy Shoker, he settled on the King’s Fianchetto.
The appeal of the idea is its economy. Whether you are White or Black, you fianchetto the king’s bishop and play with the same handful of structures and plans — the bishop serving as both a defender of your own king and a long-range attacker. Learn the ideas once and you can apply them from either side of the board, which dramatically cuts the amount you must study.
For Black the book gives the Modern Defence against 1.e4 and fianchetto set-ups against 1.d4; for White it offers reversed King’s-Indian and Pirc structures and clear answers to the Dutch and to ...d5 systems. Throughout, the emphasis is on understanding typical fianchetto structures, activating the bishop, and attacking and defending these positions, with exercises to reinforce each idea.
Ideal for busy amateurs who want one coherent, low-maintenance system for their whole repertoire rather than separate theory for every opening.
