Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual - FastTrack Edition
Since 2003, Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual has been widely regarded as the finest single volume ever written on the endgame — but at 400-plus pages of dense analysis, it can intimidate. This FastTrack Edition is the answer: a streamlined route into the same material, designed to get you to practical endgame competence faster.
The original always used bold type to mark the text every player simply must know. This edition builds on that idea, foregrounding the essential knowledge — the key theoretical positions, rules, and methods — so you can absorb the core of each topic without first wading through the deepest variations. It is a parallel edition rather than a replacement: the same Dvoretsky wisdom, repackaged for efficient study.
Coverage spans the whole subject in the classic Dvoretsky order: pawn endings, knight and bishop endings, the notoriously tricky opposite-coloured bishops, rook endings (the heart of practical endgame play), queen endings, and general endgame principles. New introductory material by Karsten Müller and Alex Fishbein, and a foreword by Ian Rogers, frame the edition.
Best suited to club players who want the indispensable endgame knowledge in a more digestible form — and a strong on-ramp to the full Manual later.

Mikhail Tal, the 'magician from Riga,' was the greatest attacking World Champion of them all, and this enchanting autobiography chronicles his extraordinary career with charm and humor. Dazzling games are interspersed throughout with anecdotes and witty self-interviews, and in typically objective fashion he related both the downs and ups of his encounters. An inveterate smoker and drinker, Tal's life on the circuit was punctuated by bouts in the hospital with kidney problems, but nothing could dull his love for chess and his sheer genius on the chessboard. His illustrious tournament record, up to his death in 1992, is included here in full, along with 100 complete games and nearly as many positions. Tal's annotations in this book are a world apart from ordinary games collections. No reader could fail to be swept along by his passion and vitality as he sets the scene for an encounter and then recounts every psychological twist and turn.
I was lucky enough to play against six world champions and several top players in my modest chess career, but the greatest player I feel privileged to have known, to have spent time with him, was Miguel Najdorf, “El Viejo”. This is a chess book, with 275 commented games, it covers all his chess career, but it has also many stories. Najdorf was the most important Argentinean chess player, and he was an exceptional person. Oscar Panno said that Najdorf reminded him of Don Quixote, in the part of the book where he tells Sancho Panza, “Wherever I am, that is where the head of the table is going to be”. He successfully overcame the most terrible setbacks, as few are capable of doing. Writing about Miguel Najdorf is one of my greatest pleasures as a chess journalist and writer!

Ian Nepomniachtchi’s road from Grandmaster to becoming Magnus Carlsen’s world championship challenger in 2021 was a long one. GM in 2007 and Russian champion for the first time in 2010, Ian only hit the elite in recent years. His victory in Ekaterinburg occurred at his very first candidates tournament. In this book Grandmaster Zenon Franco analyzes Nepo’s chess through his 30 best wins and several fragments, considering his style, his strengths, as well as his weaknesses and how he has overcome them. Like Magnus, we see fighting, practical chess with a player not afraid to push his g and h pawns in front of his king, and a more aggressive than positional style. Above all, Franco compares Nepo to Lasker, Korchnoi and Magnus Carlsen himself. In instructional move by move format, we see Ian’s best wins against Carlsen, Anand, Kramnik, Giri, Aronian, Vachier-Lagrave, Svidler, Gelfand, Karjakin, and other elite players of the last decade.
This is the first volume of the new series "Key Concepts of Chess". The idea is to deal with middlegames in which a certain structure or essential theme becomes central. The idea of starting this series is in line with the "Understanding before Moving" series because the aim, is to improve the understanding of club chess players. According to the author, playing an opening should be 'hung up' on stereotypical ideas and concepts belonging to this structure. The thorough exploration of middlegame structures is beyond the scope of opening books, hence it makes more sense to expose it in this complementary series. In this first volume, the "Hedgehog System" is discussed in detail. Apart from being part of the author's repertoire, this typical set-up deserves to be widely highlighted. Although in the second part of the trilogy on the Sicilian, the Hedgehog has already made its appearance, in this book the seemingly fragile, but oh so treacherous creature can reconsider its spines in an extensive way.
With all the many books and articles on the Sicilian Defense, there is surprisingly little about the Four Knights Variation. Its starting position is reached after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6. It may also be reached after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6. Some prefer 2...e6 to 2...Nc6 because it avoids 3.Bb5. The fundamentals of the Sicilian Four Knights are not hard to learn. Black reaches the middlegame quickly and safely, with lively piece play in the dynamic positions which arise. There is no easy ride for White here, and, in particular, if he gets over-ambitious, he can find himself on the receiving end of a powerful attack very quickly.

The London System in 12 Practical Lessons
After the success of The Agile London System, Óscar de Prado returns to the opening he is most associated with — but with a deliberately more practical aim. Instead of long, forcing variations, this book teaches the London through plans, schemes, and the standard manoeuvres that recur in almost every game.
The structure is its strength: twelve self-contained lessons, each on a concrete practical theme. You learn the core move-orders and ideas, then the typical attacking plans — the assault on b2, the early h4 thrust, the f2-f4 schemes, queenside play — followed by the recurring middlegame motifs (good knight versus bad bishop, the key queen manoeuvres) and, importantly, the typical London endgames so often reached.
A lesson on the latest theoretical developments keeps the repertoire current, and a closing chapter of tactical, strategic, and theoretical exercises lets you test what you’ve absorbed. A preface by grandmaster Pepe Cuenca sets the tone.
Best suited to club players who want a sound, low-maintenance 1.d4 system they can play on autopilot — understanding the plans rather than memorising lines.
